Latest New York Food Stamps Fraud Incident Location: Monticello
It appears that the state of New York is serious about cracking down on people who misrepresent their incomes in order to get New York Food Stamps.
Ivan Martinez is a 45 year old ex parolee who lives in Monticello. He was paroled in 2010, and since that time he has earned his keep with several jobs and unemployment.
Apparantly, at some point he applied for New York Food Stamps (NY SNAP Benefits), but he did not report all of his income to the NY Department of Social Services.
Because he failed to report his income, Martinez is facing four felony charges: first-degree offering a false instrument for filing, first degree welfare fraud, third-degree grand larceny, and misuse of food stamps.
After his arraignment, he was sent to Sullivan County Jail without bail. This seems a little bit harsh to me, but whatever...
Martinez' grand total in fraud of New York food Stamps is a little over $3,000.
Food stamp fraud is a serious crime, please think twice before you lie to get or keep SNAP Benefits.
