Food Banks Brace for Congressional Cuts to Food Stamp Benefits

According to the New York Times, last year in Washington, DC, the Capital Area Food Bank started getting requests for more food assistance from the area soup kitchens and food pantries that it usually
supplies.

It seems that far more low income people showed up needing food assistance than normal. The crowds of hungry Americans usually swells up around Thanksgiving and Christmas, but neither holiday was the culprit this time around.

The culprit was the drastic cuts to the SNAP Benefits Program imposed by Congress.  Now, food banks all over the country brace for impact as Congress gets ready to cut food stamps yet again.

Approximately 47 million Americans are receiving SNAP Benefits, and many of them will soon receive a cut in their benefits.
