Hurricane Sandy Disaster (New York Food Assistance)
Hurricane Sandy has put a huge strain on its victim, especially those who were already in need of nutrition assistance to begin with.
If you are in need of New York Food Stamps (NY SNAP), and you do not know where to turn, please continue reading, and I will point you in the right direction for all kinds of Hurricane Sandy disaster assistance.
Also, according to an article published on Farm Futures, the USDA has granted permission for residents in certain areas of New York to use their food stamps to purchase hot food.
This waiver of such has been granted by the USDA to assist those who have lost their homes, are still affected by power outages and are otherwise unable to prepare a hot meal because of the devastation of Hurricane Sandy.
I am not certain which New York areas will be granted this waiver, but I will list the New York City area food stamp office Hurricane Sandy Command Centers, and other programs that might provide food assistance if you need it.
HURRICANE SANDY EMERGENCY FOOD STAMPS
Mayor Bloomberg and the Human Rights Administration (HRA) have set up command centers where you can get information about how to apply (and possibly apply) for New York Food Stamps (New York SNAP), New York Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (NY TANF), and Medicaid.
You will also be able to find information about where overnight shelters and warming centers are located at these locations.
If for any reason, you cannot get help with NY Food Stamps immediately at any of these locations, please do not hesitate to call 311 from the local NY area:
